Strategic Plan Extension (2021-2024)

Chair and CEO Message

Mike Arnew headshotOn behalf of Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH), we are pleased and excited to share with you our newly extended Strategic Plan 2021-2024: Care beyond our walls.

In 2019, MSH unveiled the Strategic Plan 2019-2022: Care beyond our walls – a bold new plan built on our previous growth and success while positioning our organization to seize the opportunities for improved patient care.

2021/2022 marks the third and final year of this Strategic Plan. Over the past year, we have experienced significant achievement of our care beyond our walls Vision, largely accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. We are living our Vision, in more ways than we could have ever imagined. Our digital transformation allowed us to leverage Jo-anne Marr headshottechnology and provide personalized care to our patients outside the physical walls of our buildings. We continued to cultivate relationships with our community partners that were formed and/or strengthened during the pandemic. This included extensively supporting long-term care, retirement homes, congregate settings and school boards. And we advanced our work as part of the Eastern York Region North Durham Ontario Health Team, providing outreach to some of the region’s hardest to reach and older populations.

Since the original plan was developed, we have laid the groundwork for an ambitious future and outlined this expected growth through our recent master planning exercise. We continue to focus on patient-centred care by putting patients and their families at the heart of everything we do, working with all stakeholders both inside and outside the hospital to improve care and empowering our people by providing growth opportunities and celebrating their dedication to care.

To build on these tremendous successes, MSH has extended the strategic plan by two years: Strategic Plan 2021-2024: Care beyond our walls. This strategic plan extension was developed following extensive engagement with leadership, physicians, frontline staff, and patients and caregivers.

With a focus on delivering an extraordinary patient experience, embracing our community and empowering our people, MSH is well positioned to achieve its goals. Through our collective efforts, we will make it easier for patients and families to navigate the health care system, improve connections with our community partners and service providers and continually strive to deliver better, safer and more patient-centred care.

At MSH, we continuously push ourselves to do better for our patients, their families and the community we serve. This plan leads us into the future by building on our past successes, acknowledging the challenges we face, and by taking advantage of the opportunities that are ready to be seized. We are honoured to care for the communities of Markham, Stouffville, Uxbridge and beyond.
