Requirements:
Minimum age of 16 years or older (at the time of application).
A 60 hour commitment for all volunteers, which takes approximately 6-8 months of one 2 to 3 hour shift per week.
2 written references (forms provided).

If candidate is short listed to be a volunteer, applicants must attend an interview and a volunteer orientation prior to beginning their volunteering.
Once selected as a volunteer candidate, applicants must provide:
a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) (volunteers pay a discounted fee to apply) if you are 18 years or older. We can provide you with a supporting letter at the interview.
Completed immunization records including 2 step tuberculosis screening, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tdap and hepatitis B (immunization status only).
Successful candidates will be required to provide a $20 refundable deposit for their ID badge.
Volunteers are an integral part of the patient experience. We ask that you consider your availability when applying to volunteer and ensure that you are able to fulfil our required commitment. We have limited evening and weekend opportunities.
References will be provided only after a minimum of 60 hours have been completed. Two weeks’ notice is required.
For those seeking summer volunteer opportunities, we have a post-secondary and high school Summer Volunteer Program. Intake period for the Summer Program is March 1-April 30. Post-Secondary summer program runs from May to end of August and the high school summer program runs from July to end of August.

Community Resources will notify applicants who have been shortlisted for an interview. Due to the high volume of applications received, we are unable to offer volunteer placements to all candidates and we will only contact successful candidates.
Applications are accepted throughout the year. Volunteers are required to commit to a minimum of 60 hours, one shift per week, (three to four hours).
This program is open to all new and returning student volunteers who are available to volunteer during the summer only. Returning summer students are not required to complete a new application package. Please send an email to studentvolunteering@oakvalleyhealth.ca. to indicate your interest in summer volunteering.
POST-SECONDARY SUMMER VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
Runs from May 1 to August 31

HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

The Community-Based Cooperative Education Program is an experiential learning program in partnership between Oak Valley Health and the York Region District School Board (YRDSB). The application process is coordinated through YRDSB. Students interested in this program should consult with the guidance department at school.
Medical office administration or clerical placements
Students in a medical office administration program are welcome to apply as a volunteer in the adult volunteer program. However, we are unable to sign an education agreement with the educational institution where the student is registered.
At Oak Valley Health, our Spiritual and Religious Care team is focused on providing sensitive and respectful care to our diverse community.
Spiritual care volunteers provide companionship, compassionate presence, and a connection with the community.

The following are requirements for individuals interested in becoming a spiritual care volunteer or obtaining gain clergy privileges:
Spiritual and Religious Care Volunteer

Complete spiritual and religious care training at one of the local LHIN hospitals.

Clergy Privileges or Parish/Religious Group Visitors
Must submit a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) (volunteers pay a discounted fee to apply). Oak Valley Health can provide a supporting letter at the interview.

One reference and a letter from your faith group endorsing you.
$20 refundable deposit for ID badge.
Must only visit patients related to one’s parish or temple or mosque or those self-identified as seeking faith specific spiritual support from their faith group.
