The outpatient procedure suites (OPS) at Markham Stouffville Hospital are comprised of seven procedure rooms, each fully equipped to provide the care you need. Our suites include:

  • Two cytoscopy rooms
  • An X-ray room
  • Two minor procedure rooms
  • Two endoscopy rooms

The OPS is staffed with registered nurses who, in partnership with physicians, provide sedation for your comfort and support you throughout your procedure. OPS includes an admission and recovery area where you will be assessed by registered nurses and spend time recovering after your procedure before you go home.

Going home after Outpatient Surgery

For legal reasons and your own personal safety, you must be accompanied by a responsible adult after receiving anaesthesia or sedation. If the person driving you home is not waiting at the hospital, give the nurse a phone number where they can be reached. Your ride should be available to pick you up as early as 1.5 hours after the end of your surgery.

If you take a taxi or bus home, ensure there is a family member or friend to accompany you.
