Dr. Allan Grill is Chief of Family Medicine at Oak Valley Health’s Markham Stouffville Hospital.

Dr. Grill obtained his M.D. and Family Medicine training from the University of Toronto (UofT) and completed his Master of Public Health degree at Harvard University. He holds an academic rank of Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen’s University. Dr. Grill is the Lead Physician at the Markham Family Health Team where he enjoys an active community-based clinical practice. Dr. Grill’s clinical duties also include long-term care of the elderly and reactivation care. 

In August 2023, Dr. Grill was selected as the inaugural Assistant Dean of the Queen’s-Lakeridge Health campus in Durham Region and provides administrative, operational, and educational leadership for medical students, residents and other interprofessional healthcare learners. Recognizing competency and excellence in physician leadership, Dr. Grill is also a recipient of the Canadian Certified Physician Executive (CCPE) credential from the Canadian Medical Association and Canadian Society of Physician Leaders. 

Dr. Grill’s career accolades include two Awards of Excellence from The College of Family Physicians of Canada (2016, 2021) and several awards from the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto, including a Postgraduate Clinical Teaching Award for Role Modeling/Clinical Excellence. He enjoys teaching medical students and residents and is an experienced public speaker at accredited medical conferences as well as a regular media commentator.
