With many struggling to get timely access to care and waitlists for family doctors growing, our Community Health Clinic in Stouffville offers a virtual care option for timely access to health services.
With virtual care, patients are able to access services from the comfort of their home and avoid travel time, which is particularly beneficial for those who have accessibility and mobility concerns.
“I have seen a patient who lives in Huntsville and her primary care provider is a two-and-a-half hour drive away,” says Marjan Aghazahedi, a nurse practitioner in our Community Health Clinic. “She has been receiving care from us and finds the appointments very engaging and convenient. She likes the use of technology to access health care, too.”
Virtual care for individuals six months and older
Supported in partnership with Eastern York Region North Durham Ontario Health Team, virtual care appointments are available seven days a week from 1 to 9 p.m. for individuals six months and older who have urgent, non-life-threatening conditions that can be addressed virtually.
Virtual care is available to residents from Mississauga to Huntsville and Orangeville to Markham.
Patients booking a virtual care appointment will be seen by a nurse practitioner who may offer medical advice, diagnosis, test results, treatment, education, and referrals, if required. Virtual care is also available for those who do not have access to OHIP.
“I have patients who have booked a same-day appointment over the weekend because their doctor wasn’t available,” says Marjan. “They avoided a trip to the emergency department, received a plan of care, and had their prescription faxed to a pharmacy.”
Use of virtual care services growing
Since the opening of our Community Health Clinic, virtual care has seen an influx in the number of patients over the last few months.
“We see patients of all ages and from all over Ontario,” says Marjan. “There is no waiting in the crowded waiting rooms and it reduces unnecessary emergency department visits. Virtual care provides accessible and efficient health care.”
