As part of the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 vaccination program, the Eastern York Region North Durham (EYRND) Ontario Health Team (OHT) in partnership with Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH) and York Region Public Health, and with the support of the City of Markham, will officially open the COVID-19 Community Vaccination Centre located at the Cornell Community Centre on Tuesday March 2, 2021. Online appointments bookings for the vaccinations started on Monday, March 1, 2021.

“This is an exciting opportunity, and truly exemplifies how MSH is living our vision of ‘care beyond our walls’. Our hospital is uniquely positioned, to be able to deliver vaccines to those that need it most in our community,” says Jo-anne Marr, President and CEO of Markham Stouffville Hospital.

“It is our privilege to come together with community agencies and local partners to be able to facilitate this pivotal resource for the benefit, and health and safety of our patients, their families and the community.”

Located at the Cornell Community Centre, 3201 Bur Oak Ave, east side of MSH on Bur Oak Avenue at Church Street, the COVID-19 Community Vaccination Centre will provide vaccinations for York Region residents who qualify under the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 vaccine program guidelines, during this initial roll-out.

“A model of true collaboration among the hospital, community agencies and local health care providers, the vaccination centre is operated by nurses, support services, administrative staff and physicians from Markham Stouffville Hospital, local family physician and community specialist clinics and community service organizations,” says Dr. Emilie Lam, local family physician and Chair of the Primary Care Advisory Council of the EYRND OHT.

Vaccinations will take place inside the gymnasium in the fully accessible site. The triple gymnasium (13,057 sq. ft.) at Cornell Community Centre is one of the largest in the City of Markham’s recreation inventory, allowing for mass vaccinations to the public, with a potential capacity of up-to 1,800 vaccinations daily.

At this time, the COVID-19 Community Vaccination Centre is by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, qualified individuals must book online. Walk-ins will not be accepted.
