Stage 2 capital planning for Uxbridge Hospital redevelopment announced and Oak Tree Medical Centre officially opens

On November 26, Oak Valley Health announced Stage 2 of the capital planning for the major redevelopment of our Uxbridge Hospital. This project will replace aging infrastructure with a new, modern hospital facility and increase capacity to meet growing demands and ensure that patients and families in growing communities like Uxbridge receive the high-quality care they need and deserve.

Jo-anne Marr, President and CEO of Oak Valley Health, says Stage 2 capital planning is an important step for the overall vision of the future hospital campus.

“I am delighted we are marking another important milestone for Oak Valley Health and the Uxbridge community,” says Marr. “Together we are accomplishing our goal of providing an extraordinary patient experience that will allow the residents of Uxbridge and Durham Region better access to health care services, closer to home.”

As part of the Stage 2 capital planning process, Oak Valley Health has submitted a Functional Program, which provides details of the programs and services that will be offered at the redeveloped hospital. We are working with the Ministry to finalize the Functional Program and have it quickly approved so we can move to the next stage of the redevelopment process.

In 2019, the Ontario government announced an investment of up to $500,000 to support the planning and design of the redevelopment project.

“The Uxbridge Hospital is the heart of our community and our emergency room is critical for us. We are very grateful that the province is investing in the future of our hospital,” says Dave Barton, Mayor of Uxbridge. “Our community is truly grateful that residents today and the generations that follow will have quality health care close to home.”

Official opening of Oak Tree Medical Centre

Also on November 26, in partnership with Uxbridge Health Centre’s physician group, Oak Valley Health announced the official opening of Oak Tree Medical Centre.

Elena Pacheco, Vice President, Planning and Transformation at Oak Valley Health, says the model of care at Oak Tree Medical Centre is consistent with our vision of providing care beyond our walls.

“A vital element of plans for a new, fully integrated hospital campus.” – Elena Pacheco

“Today marks the beginning of what’s to come for Uxbridge Hospital and health care for the Uxbridge community and many Durham Region residents,” says Pacheco. “The brand new Oak Tree Medical Centre is a vital element of plans for a new, fully integrated hospital campus, and is a great step in the right direction.”

With an impressive 37,000 square feet of state-of-the-art space, Oak Tree Medical Centre will service more than 30,000 patients a year and allows the residents of Uxbridge and Durham Region better access to health care services.

Owned and operated by a compassionate and dedicated group of family physicians, Oak Tree Medical Centre will house diagnostic imaging, physiotherapy, dentistry, pharmacy, laboratory, and select ambulatory services that will be relocated from Uxbridge Hospital.

Having the building in close proximity to the hospital allows the physicians who work in the family practice, as well as in the Emergency Department and the inpatient units at Uxbridge Hospital, to practise more seamlessly, train, and collaborate with one another.

This facility, the centre of primary care excellence in Uxbridge, is closely integrated with the hospital and allied health professionals, and will continue to provide safe, high-quality care for the community and beyond.
