Oak Valley Health is pleased to announce the opening of the Oak Valley Health Outpatient Pharmacy slated for the fall of 2023.
Intended for the most high risk patients, the outpatient pharmacy will be able to dispense specialty drugs for patients coming from hospital clinic appointments, including surgery, mental health, oncology, and the Emergency Department.
“We are expanding on the existing pharmacy that currently operates out of our Oncology Department,” says Shellyna Moledina, Director, Pharmacy. “But we will now be able to provide specialized pharmaceutical, education, support and expertise for the entire patient population.”
“This is in response to the growing need to better support our specialty patient population, such as our patients with cancer, and to ensure patients can receive their medication in a safe, easily accessible manner,” says Terri Stuart-McEwan, Vice President, Clinical Programs, Chief Nursing Executive. “We know that providing highly trained pharmacy expertise to answer questions and provide timely support improves the patient experience. We are adapting a proven model that exists within many of our partner hospitals and reinforcing our commitment to providing seamless care for our patients and the community.”
Patients will be able to fill their prescriptions onsite before leaving from their appointments. They will also benefit from having access to hospital trained pharmacists who can answer questions about the specific drugs and ensure they understand how to safely and effectively use their medications.
The Oak Valley Health Outpatient Pharmacy will be located inside the main entrance of Markham Stouffville Hospital, operating daily.
