It has come to our attention that Oak Valley Health is being referenced in a health care worker recruitment scam. The scam appears to be related to what other Ontario hospitals have experienced over the past 18 months.

The sophisticated online scam involves:

  1. Job listings on popular job posting sites such as Indeed.ca and additional unique websites promoting the fake jobs.
  2. Online job application.
  3. An online interview is conducted and the applicants are subsequently sent a fake offer letter. The fake contract of employment uses the Oak Valley Health logo/brand and asks for personal information such as banking information and for money from the applicant to cover recruitment fees.

Oak Valley Health does not request money from individuals applying to work at our hospitals. Please consider these offers as fraudulent.

Oak Valley Health has reported the scam to York Regional Police and the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security. We are sharing this information publicly so that potential job applicants are aware. This information has also been posted on our website and shared on Oak Valley Health’s official social media channels.

Individuals who believe they may have fallen victim to this scam should file a report with their local police if in Canada. For those outside of Canada a report can be filed by calling 1-888-495-8501 or by visiting the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre on-line.

Although, Oak Valley Health, which includes both Markham Stouffville Hospital and Uxbridge Hospital does post job opportunities on recruitment sites such as Indeed.ca, we encourage all applicants to apply directly for our exciting opportunities on our website.

Any questions from applicants can be directed to the Human Resources department at Oak Valley Health.
