Varoon Singh is a cardiology technologist at Oak Valley Health’s Markham Stouffville Hospital. He’s been working at Markham Stouffville Hospital for the past 16 years.
As a cardiology technologist, Varoon performs various diagnostic tests for his patients who experience a range of heart-related symptoms, including chest pains, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, and even those who have experienced stroke, to ensure there are no blockages or irregularities to address.
In order to determine the cause of the symptoms, Varoon shares that checking the heart is often the first step before ruling out any cardiac abnormalities, as the heart impacts everything else in the body. Some of the tests that he performs include stress tests, cardiopulmonary exercise tests, ECGs, and more.
Varoon’s favourite part of doing his job is helping his patients and finding the best way to treat them.
“I like knowing that I’ve contributed to helping patients and figuring out what’s gone wrong,” says Varoon
When it comes to Oak Valley Health, Varoon enjoys working with the hospital community. He likes the interactions that he has with his patients and his team.
“It’s the community which I like most about working here. The things that keep me running are the patients and the people I work with,” says Varoon. “In the 16 years that I’ve been working here, it’s interacting with the patients and working alongside my colleagues that make my job so enjoyable.”
When Varoon isn’t at the hospital helping patients, he likes to spend time catching up on current events, listening to his favourite podcasts, getting outdoors, and getting in as much quality time with his friends and family, especially his two daughters: “they are everything to me.”
