Meet Tracie, the director of Interprofessional Practice and Education at Oak Valley Health. Tracie leads and supports her teams with knowledge translation, programming for education, and ensuring the organization has up-to-date, evidence-informed practices for providing high quality patient care.

Tracie has been with Oak Valley Health since 1995, and has worked in various roles over the years, including as a frontline nurse in both registered practical nurse (RPN) and registered nurse (RN) roles, and in education and leadership capacities including professional practice leader, clinical manager, and clinical program director. She has worked across the medicine, surgery, and childbirth and children’s services programs.

Some of the initiatives that Tracie has supported include nursing residency and new graduate support, clinical extern program, clinical scholar program, academic plan development and implementation, learner placements and experience, partnerships with academic institutions, simulation and digital learning programs, and professional recognition weeks.

Tracie is an advocate for all professions in the organization, as they are all unique and play important roles in the interprofessional shared care model. She also believes in the importance of investing in staff at all levels, and works with staff to develop in their career path at Oak Valley Health. Tracie has supported advanced practice roles for physiotherapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy and nursing across the organization.

All of our values resonate deeply with Tracie, but if she had to choose only one, right now in the post-pandemic stage, it would be courage and she offers this advice: “Have the courage to move forward, do things differently, to let go of how we have previously worked, embrace the unknown, and make decisions that support staff, patients, and the community in this unique time in health care.”

Tracie considers herself a coffee aficionado! Family is very important to her and she enjoys being creative in the kitchen both baking and cooking. She also loves spending time outdoors in nature and discovering new experiences. You can often find Tracie with her hands in soil growing both food and flowers in her backyard garden. Tracie loves travelling, and exploring new countries and cultures is one of her passions as it provides a means to better understanding our differences, as well as appreciate our similarities, as humans.

“I choose to work at Oak Valley Health because I align with the values of the organization and I believe in the care we give. I believe in our people and that we really are an extraordinary place to work. We care passionately, work hard, support each other and we never forget the patient is the centre of what we do. I can feel it when I walk the halls and talk to our teams – being honoured to care is really how we live and breathe.”
