Brad has been with Oak Valley Health since December 2020, first joining as a social worker, supporting medicine, palliative care and rehabilitation units. Recently, Brad has begun a new role as staff and physician wellness leader.

Brad and Lori Dunn are Oak Valley Health’s two staff and physician wellness leaders. Each month, they connect with over 500 staff and physicians via counselling sessions, huddles, rounding, debriefs, and more.

“It’s nice to be able to follow up with the staff that I talk to,” says Brad. “When working with patients, we may work only once with them before they are discharged, and often, we don’t ever see them again. It’s nice to know that I can always check in after a tough conversation to make sure my colleagues are doing okay.”

In addition to his role as staff and physician wellness leader, Brad is also part of the Pride Committee and the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee.

“Growing up in Markham, I witnessed many fellow LGBTQ2S+ folks leave Markham for more inclusive, welcoming communities,” says Brad. “I am very proud to be from Markham, and I love our city. I hope to be able to help the community benefit from the different perspectives of all cultures, genders, abilities, and sexualities.”

This past Pride Month, Oak Valley Health held multiple Pride events, all of which were organized by Brad and the rest of the Pride Committee.

“Being part of the Pride Committee allows me to celebrate the successes of the community and reflect on the work that still needs to be done,” says Brad.

In his spare time, Brad enjoys crafting, painting, and is a self-proclaimed gaming nerd. He also hopes to begin planning his wedding in the future!
