As the Executive Director of Uxbridge Hospital Foundation, Michele Varela is a senior development professional with over 25 years’ experience in fundraising and resource development. Her well-rounded background includes non-profit management, capital campaigns, financial management, planned giving, stewardship, and annual fund programs.
Michele started her career with the United Way of Greater Toronto and has remained in the health care sector working at other health care organizations such as Scarborough Health Network Foundation, Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation, and West Park Healthcare Centre Foundation. Michele has an excellent track record of recruiting, training, and managing all levels of volunteers and has been involved in the planning and execution of seven capital/major campaigns ranging from $2 million to $100 million.
In this field, Michele has provided strong and effective leadership and mentoring to staff and worked with key non-profit organization stakeholders, board members, senior staff, and physicians to develop and build strong relationships that supported the achievement of an organization mission and goals.
As a professional fundraiser and forward-thinking business professional, Michele’s key accountabilities have been to lead in the development and implementation of strategic and operational plans, policies, and programs. As a campaign leader, she ambitiously achieves her goals by working closely with campaign volunteers.
Michele lives in Newmarket with her husband and two children and is an avid golfer and skier.
