Janis Dalacker is a practicing hospitalist midwife with privileges at Oak Valley Health – Markham Stouffville Hospital since 2011. She began her training in 2004 and graduated from Ryerson University with Honours in Health Sciences (Midwifery) in 2009. Following graduation, she began her midwifery career serving urban and rural communities in the London and Woodstock areas before joining the midwives at Markham Stouffville Hospital.
Areas of interest include improving exclusive breastfeeding rates, the benefits of a holistic and family-centred approach to prenatal, intrapartum and postpartum care, as well as client safety and collaborative practice. She has been a preceptor for the Midwifery Education Programme since 2011 and has performed as surgical assist in caesarean sections since 2013.
She is registered with the College of Midwives of Ontario (CMO) and maintains membership with the Canadian Association of Midwives (CAM), the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC) and the Association of Ontario Midwives (AOM). Janis also maintains current competency and certification in CPR, neonatal resuscitation, emergency skills, fetal health surveillance and is ALARM certified.
