Our Summer Student Research Program provides students with a unique community hospital research experience across a multiple of disciplines. Students will have the opportunity to take part in exciting research, right at the patients bedside.
Starts with an orientation to the Office of Research, and is followed by regular seminars and team huddles to build your research knowledge and skills
In September, students have the opportunity to present their work at Research Day, held during Academic Week.
Students entering their final year of undergraduate or students completing their final year of undergraduate (preferably in a health-related discipline) with plans to return to school in the fall (medical school or post-graduate degree)
Excellent computer skills including Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
Able to manage multiple deadlines
Knowledge of conducting literature reviews and research methodology (is preferred)
Knowledge of the Research Ethics Board and good clinical practices (is preferred)
Knowledge of basic data analysis is an asset
Each research project may require different responsibilities based on the status and study type. Examples of responsibilities include:
Assist in conducting literature reviews and designing a research project
Assist in developing/revising study protocol and supporting documents (i.e. consent forms)
Prepare and submit submissions to the Research Ethics Board
Perform study-related tasks (i.e. screening, recruitment, obtaining consent, data collection, data entry, and data analysis)
Assist in writing manuscripts or preparing presentation materials
Attend educational sessions and team huddles
Student positions are non-paid. This is a volunteer opportunity where students are asked to commit 17.5 hours. The number of students accepted each year depend on the number of research projects available.
