Family presence has been restricted during COVID-19.
At Markham Stouffville Hospital, we know that many of our patients want their partners-in-care and family members involved in their care and care planning. Research has shown that the presence of family not only enriches the patient and family experience. It also enhances continuity of care, improves the management of chronic and acute illnesses and prevents hospital readmissions.
Our Family Presence Policy at our Markham and Uxbridge sites enables 24/7 access for your partners in care, allowing them to spend more time with you during your stay at the hospital. This unrestricted visiting hours policy focuses on working with you and your partners-in-care in your health care, care planning and decision-making. You decide who you want involved during your stay at the hospital.

Essential caregiver program
At Oak Valley Health, we appreciate the impact of family, friends, loved ones and caregivers on patient experience and safety. It is also our priority to keep patients, staff, and visitors safe. As such, the Essential Caregiver Program was developed to safely reintegrate loved ones in the patients care throughout their hospital journey. The Essential Caregiver Program pilot areas are Markham Stouffville Hospital (Palliative Care Unit on 1C and Alternate Level of Care on 2C), Uxbridge Hospital, and Reactivation Care Centre.
