As part of the early works supporting Uxbridge Hospital redevelopment, groundwork and infrastructure services have begun. This includes temporary changes to parking effective Monday, July 14 to late fall 2025.
A new 75-space parking lot is open on July 14 outside the hospital’s main entrance, available for both staff and visitor use. To access the new patients and visitors parking lot, enter Campbell Drive and drive west, then turn into the second entrance on the right and enter the parking lot on the right.
The parking lot across from the Oak Tree Medical Centre will be closed. For parking rates and more, click here.
Early works construction taking place
As we complete the demolition of the EMS building and remove excavated soil from the site, there may be temporary disruptions such as construction noise and increased truck traffic.
We recognize construction can be disruptive, and we’re committed to reducing its impact. To ensure your comfort and safety, we are implementing several measures, including:
Sealing hospital windows and regularly cleaning air filters
Installing protective mats at all entrances
Frequent cleaning and dust control
To maintain vibrations at safe levels, we partnered with a third-party company to continuously monitor on-site vibrations. For more information, please refer to our frequently asked questions. Thank you for your understanding and patience during this exciting chapter for Uxbridge Hospital and our growing community.
Past
Early works construction
Early works construction (site development and infrastructure) of the Uxbridge Hospital redevelopment are underway, marking the first step toward a state-of-the-art health care facility that will better serve the evolving needs of our community. This is an exciting milestone as we move towards building the new hospital with plans that also include a new long-term care home that will be connected to the hospital.
This campus of care model will deliver the highest level of quality care. Early works construction of the hospital will begin spring 2025. This will include preparatory tasks and groundwork before the main construction phase begins in spring 2027. These tasks will include: underground site development, extending site services, demolition of the EMS building and the hospital maintenance shop/garage, and expanding parking.
Our top priority is to ensure this process is safe, efficient, and seamless for our patients, staff, and neighbours.
Temporary helipad location
During construction of the new Uxbridge Hospital, access to the helipad located on the existing hospital property, for air ambulance transportation of patients, will not be permitted due to the surrounding construction activities.
After an in-depth assessment, it was determined that in order to continue access to air ambulance services during construction of the new hospital, a temporary location within Uxbridge would be required and has since been confirmed.
The temporary location is within the Fields of Uxbridge located approximately three kilometres from the hospital.
The final location of the helipad at the new hospital will be on the rooftop of the hospital building allowing for enhanced patient transport services.
Official signing of site plan application
On October 4, 2024, Oak Valley Health’s Jo-anne Marr, President and CEO; Elena Pacheco, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer; and Rebecca MacKenzie, Chief Communications, Public Affairs, and Patient Experience Officer; and members of our staff, were joined by the honourable Peter Bethlenfalvy, Minister of Finance and MPP for Pickering-Uxbridge; his worship Mayor of Uxbridge Dave Barton; Regional Councillor Bruce Garrod; and township staff, in the official signing of the site plan application for our new Uxbridge Hospital.
This day marked another step forward in the redevelopment of our new Uxbridge Hospital campus, which includes the construction of the long-term care facility. The brand-new state-of-the-art hospital will add more patient beds and expand key services such as ambulatory care and diagnostic imaging – making it easier for families to continue receiving high-quality care, closer to home, in Durham region.
