Early works construction of the Uxbridge Hospital redevelopment are underway. Learn more.
Oak Valley Health, alongside the provincial government, is expanding and building a new, modernized hospital in Uxbridge. The new hospital will add more patient beds and expand key services such as ambulatory care and diagnostic imaging – making it easier for families to continue receiving high-quality care, closer to home.
The plan for the new Uxbridge Hospital is to build a brand new state-of-the-art building on existing land. In partnership with Uxbridge Health Centreʼs physician group, Oak Tree Medical Centre opened – an ambulatory care building, and future home of a slate of hospital services. Additionally, plans are underway for a third building on the Uxbridge Hospital property – a long-term care home with seamless connection to the hospital.
Having three facilities co-located in a hub model will help improve the patient experience and meet the health care needs of the people of the Township of Uxbridge and Durham Region.
Building a new hospital in Uxbridge requires a tremendous collaborative effort between the province as well as the hospital and its community.
Oak Valley Health’s community town halls share the latest news, discuss challenges, and welcome new ideas from our community. Some of our town halls include portions directly related to Uxbridge Hospital’s redevelopment.
Oak Valley Health is expanding by building a new, modernized hospital in Uxbridge to better serve the growing needs of our community. This includes a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility on the existing site. It will provide enhanced space for advanced technology, enhanced care for patients, and an improved working environment for staff. This is an exciting milestone as we move towards building the new hospital with plans that also include a new long-term care home that will be connected to the hospital.
The expanded hospital will feature:
31 beds, including 11 new beds
Expanded services, including diagnostic imaging, cardiorespiratory services, and laboratory and pharmacy services
Increased access to inpatient, emergency, and ambulatory services
Early works construction will begin late March, laying the groundwork for the redevelopment. Main construction will start in spring 2026, with completion expected in 2028. The hospital will welcome its first patients in the new building in 2029.
While construction is underway, patient care remains our top priority. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of care and keeping disruptions to a minimum. Our staff will continue to serve the community throughout this process.
We understand construction can be disruptive, and we are taking several steps to reduce its impact, including: sealing windows and regularly cleaning air filters, providing protective mats at entrances, frequent cleaning and dust control, minimizing noise, vibrations, and truck traffic. To keep vibrations at a suitable level, we are working with a third-party company to monitor the vibration level on site at all times. We will keep the community informed about any changes to access points or routines.
There may be temporary disruptions such as construction noise and increased traffic from trucks. We will take every precaution to ensure your visit is as comfortable and safe as possible, and we encourage you to reach out to our patient services team if you have any concerns.
A temporary helipad has been set up at the Fields of Uxbridge (three kilometres from the hospital). The permanent helipad will be located on the new hospital’s rooftop, improving patient transport services. More details are available.
We are implementing safety measures, including:
Having personal safety equipment available
Maintaining clean, safe environments
Using proper signage and tools to ensure access points are efficient and accessible
Your safety is our top priority. Cooperation in following instructions and signage is crucial. Entry points will be clearly defined to ensure easy access. While construction may evolve over time, please refrain from entering restricted areas, as they require special safety equipment and are designated for construction personnel only.
We are committed to engaging with the community throughout the project. Updates will be shared via:
Meetings with local community groups and stakeholders
At Oak Valley Health, we believe caring for the community goes beyond patient care. Throughout the project, we remain committed to the environment by following and exceeding tree replacement guidelines and sustainable landscaping, introducing EV chargers, sustainable energy, waste management, and improving current standards for energy performance.
