Phase 2 of the pharmacy opening includes all patients, visitors, staff, and the community
We are pleased to announce the opening of our Outpatient Pharmacy, as part of phase 2 in a planned approach, to offer a full-service pharmacy servicing all patients, visitors, staff, and community members.
Conveniently located in the main lobby of Markham Stouffville Hospital, the pharmacy offers professional pharmacy services that support a seamless care journey for better health outcomes.
“The opening of the Outpatient Pharmacy represents our ongoing commitment to delivering exceptional, patient-centred care through growth and innovation,” says Shellyna Moledina, patient care director, Pharmacy. “With services tailored to meet the diverse needs of our community, we’re making it easier for patients to access their medications and other health care essentials in one convenient location.”
The pharmacy offers a comprehensive range of services, including (but not limited to):
- Prescription filling, transfers, and medication therapy extensions for chronic conditions
- Personalized medication reviews and annual MedsCheck assessments for eligible
patients - Specialty care in oncology and mental health, with seamless coordination with health
care teams - Drug reimbursement support for drug coverage
- Coordination of special access and compassionate drug programs
- Blister packaging for improved medication adherence
- Minor ailments assessment and prescribing
- Immunizations for preventable illnesses such as shingles and pneumococcal infections
(charges may apply)

The new Outpatient Pharmacy is outfitted with an advanced automated dispensing robot, named
Spenser, designed to improve medication accuracy, efficiency, and safety. Capable of filling and
labeling up to 150 prescriptions per hour, Spenser uses barcode technology to ensure accuracy
and eliminate cross-contamination risks.
For patients, this means shorter wait times, fewer errors, and overall enhanced patient experience.
Spenser streamlines pharmacy operations, allowing staff to focus on providing personalized care, while supporting our commitment to innovation and exceptional, patient-centred service.
“This pharmacy is more than just a place to fill prescriptions,” says Elena Pacheco, Vice President
and Chief Operating Officer. “It is a testament to our vision of integrated health care, where
innovation and collaboration come together to enhance the well-being of our patients, families,
and staff.”
The Outpatient Pharmacy is staffed by a dedicated team of pharmacists, technicians, and drug access navigators, including a certified diabetes educator. The pharmacy is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is closed on weekends and statutory holidays.
All proceeds from the pharmacy support hospital programs and services.
The Outpatient Pharmacy opened with phase 1 on January 29, 2024, initially servicing only our oncology and mental health patients, always with the plan to enhance services for a phase 2 opening as a full-service pharmacy.
