Ontario Health Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN) is dedicated to saving and enhancing lives through organ and tissue donation across the province, and Oak Valley Health has made remarkable strides in this crucial field.
In 2023-2024, Oak Valley Health supported two organ donors, resulting in 13 organ donations for transplant, ultimately saving 10 lives. In addition, nine tissue donors contributed to enhancing the lives of many more individuals.
In recognition of this work, we received two awards for excellence.
Hospital Achievement Award – Provincial Conversion Rate
This award is given to hospitals that have met or exceeded TGLN’s annual target for the number of potential donors who became actual donors.
Hospital Achievement Award – Provincial Eligible Approach Rate
This award recognizes hospitals for demonstrating leading practices by facilitating a donation discussion with eligible patients/families of patients at the end of life.
“Our staff and physicians are unwavering in their commitment to delivering an exceptional patient experience,” says Terri Stuart-McEwan, Vice President of Clinical Programs and Chief Nurse Executive. “Since 2016, Oak Valley Health has been recognized by Trillium Gift of Life Network for our dedication to excellence, and we are honoured to have received six awards to date – a testament to the extraordinary efforts of our team and our ongoing commitment to advancing organ and tissue donation across Ontario.
“While our team works tirelessly to provide the highest quality care, we recognize that the real heroes are the donors whose gifts make life-saving transplants possible. Together, we are creating a brighter future and saving lives through commitment and compassion.”
This marks the fourth time Oak Valley Health has received the Hospital Achievement Award for Provincial Conversion Rate, and the second year for the Hospital Achievement Award for Provincial Eligible Approach Rate.
“The profound impact of organ and tissue donation in Ontario is transforming and enriching countless lives,” says Dr. Subarna Thirugnanam, Oak Valley Health Intensivist Lead. “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated staff, whose unwavering commitment makes this life-saving work possible.
“Additionally, I offer my sincere appreciation and comfort to the patients and families whose generosity and courage inspire us all, making miracles happen even in the most challenging times.”
