Information about heart health

    Provides information for patients and family about conditions related to clots – including patient information sheets, drug information sheets, various videos for patients and more.

Information about diabetes

  • Diabetes Canada
    Diabetes Canada’s Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Prevention and Management of Diabetes in Canada represent the best and most current evidence-based clinical practice data for health care professionals and resources for patients.

Information about medications in children

  • AboutKidsHealth
    AboutKidsHealth is a health education website for children, youth and their caregivers. Use the search function to view information about medications (in various languages) and conditions

  • CAMH
    Clear, reliable health information about mental illness and addiction through the Center for Addiction and Mental (CAMH). Allows user to view information on medications and various mental health conditions.

Other useful medication-related resources

  • What is Deprescribing? is a website for information and tools to help patients and providers participate in deprescribing. It has information about ongoing and completed deprescribing initiative and research projects in Canada. The goal of deprescribing is to reduce medication burden and maintain or improve quality of life by optimizing medication through targeted deprescribing to manage chronic conditions, avoid adverse effects and improve outcomes.
  • Opioid Stewardship
    This ISMP webpage showcases Opioid Stewardship, the coordinate interventions designed to improve, monitor and evaluate the use of opioids in order to support and protect patients. This website has been developed to help the public and health care practitioners become better informed about opioids and to help reduce and prevent harm.
  • Ontario Drug Program
    This tool is intended to help you access information on Canadian prescription and over-the-counter drugs and if they are covered.

Educational events in our community 

We are proud to provide our community with information that supports them in leading healthy, active lives. We want to help prevent injuries and support mental health and conditions that may affect their day-to-day lives. Here are some of the events we sometimes provide:

  • Joint health information session – information about healthy knee and hip joints, exercises and tips for an active lifestyle, and how to manage chronic joint pain
  • Mental health events – educational day focused on mental health and addictions including opioids and marijuana; we also supported women’s health with an event about hormones and mental health
  • Adult diabetes sessions – information about how to live with diabetes, including label reading, heart health and resistance exercises, with some sessions in Cantonese, Urdu and Hindi
  • Swan Lake seniors’ residential events – presentations about cardiac health and men’s health
  • Pregnancy and beyond sessions – information on how to stay healthy during pregnancy, how to select a childbirth care provider, and how to care for newborns  

Cornell Community Centre and library

Located along the east edge of Markham Stouffville Hospital on Bur Oak Avenue at Church Street (and physically attached to the hospital), Cornell Community Centre boasts an array of unique features promoting education, community, fitness, inclusion, and accessibility.

This includes a library with books, magazines and other resources, children and youth sections, and study rooms.

We also have the Markham Stouffville Hospital Library where you can access scientific journals and other publications to help you make informed decisions about your care.
