Providing Top Tier Service and Smiles for More Than Two Decades

If you work at Oak Valley Health’s Markham Stouffville Hospital, you’ve likely seen Omwattie Rampersaud’s, receiving and stores attendant, warm smile throughout the hallways. Since 1998, she has been an integral part of the organization working in the Facilities and Support Services department.

Previously an elementary school teacher in Guyana and Trinidad, Omwattie is no stranger to hard work and a fast paced environment. Her day starts early, after a 5 a.m. run each morning to clear her head, Omwattie arrives at work and begins receiving and delivering all overnight shipments. Followed by daily courier loads and urgent deliveries to various areas. As a key player in the print shop, stores, inventory, and shipping and receiving, Omwattie is also the only female on her team.

“The work I do is challenging, and I am so thankful I continue to learn and grow,” says Omwattie. “I feel empowered working in a male dominated field, alongside so many wonderful colleagues.”

Omwattie has formed special relationships with various members of the Oak Valley Health team.

“I truly love the diversity of the organization, and I credit this to the reason I’ve loved working here for so many years,” says Omwattie. “I am treated with respect from everyone I come across.”

Omwattie has lived in three different countries, but certainly considers Canada her home. She is looking forward to spending time with her husband, two daughters, and grandson this holiday season.

“I am a member of my Mandir, I enjoy cooking and trying new recipes, and I look forward to every Saturday I spend with my grandson,” says Omwattie.
