A dedicated pharmacist supporting patients beyond the hospital
Serving the past two years as a Pharmacist at Markham Stouffville Hospital, Catherine Chung has been an integral part of patient care for those who have required pharmaceutical assistance.
In her current role in our Outpatient Pharmacy, ensures patients receive the medications they need and educates them on their proper use. Beyond dispensing prescriptions, she also plays a critical role in identifying and resolving medication-related issues, including drug interactions, and procuring specialty medications to support patient care.
Catherine takes great pride in her work by building genuine connections with patients, especially those from the Oncology Unit who return for ongoing treatment.
“It is a privilege to help them in their journey of recovery, whether it is educating them on their supportive medications or simply offering moral support and encouragement,” says Catherine.
She finds fulfillment in being part of the healing process, knowing her expertise and compassion can make a difference in many lives.
As an outpatient Pharmacist, Catherine understands she is often one of the last health care professionals a patient interacts with before leaving the hospital. She recognizes this responsibility and her impact on their care and experience.
“I am committed to ensuring our patients leave the hospital with a good understanding of their medication therapies so they can confidently manage their condition at home,” says Catherine.
She values the trust patients place in her and her team, knowing their guidance and recommendations play a crucial role in a patient’s recovery and well-being.
Catherine’s journey at Oak Valley Health has been both rewarding and exciting. She has had the unique opportunity to help establish the new Outpatient Pharmacy — an experience that has encouraged professional growth while contributing to the organization’s development.
“I must say my time here has been very enjoyable,” says Catherine. “The staff and patients are very friendly, and my work has been incredibly interesting.”
Outside of work, Catherine cherishes time with her family, especially her two little boys. Beyond her dedication to health care, she enjoys drawing and landscape painting.
If she hadn’t pursued pharmacy, she muses she might have found fulfillment in the arts instead.
