Leading the Obstetrical Clinic with care and compassion

At Oak Valley Health’s Markham Stouffville Hospital, exceptional care begins with exceptional people—and Angela, a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) who leads the Obstetrical Clinic, is a shining example.

With more than 20 years of nursing experience, Angela has built a career focused on women’s health, pregnancy, and postpartum care. Her experience spans multiple hospitals, clinics, and specialties, making her a vital support for patients at various stages of their reproductive health journey.

The Obstetrical Clinic provides early pregnancy assessment and post-partum support. In her role, Angela, as the sole full-time RN, supports and monitors patients during cervical ripening for labour induction due to high-risk pregnancy indications. Angela also works in the Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic, where she helps patients facing difficult and often emotional situations such as miscarriage. She gathers patient histories, organizes lab and ultrasound results, and ensures the physician has everything needed to provide compassionate, timely care.

Angela’s day-to-day is far from routine – her days are filled with meaningful moments that require equal parts clinical expertise and emotional support.

But her impact doesn’t stop there. Angela also:

  • Sees postpartum patients dealing with issues like high blood pressure or wound infections.
  • Performs non-stress tests for high-risk pregnant patients, including those with diabetes or babies measuring small for gestational age.
  • Administers Rh immune globulin to Rh-negative pregnant patients to prevent complications.
  • Assists gynecologists in the colposcopy clinic, helping perform cervical biopsies and support patients during intimate, sometimes anxiety-provoking procedures.

“My role is very clinic-based and every day is different,” Angela explains. “We see patients who are excited, anxious, grieving, or just in need of some reassurance. It’s a privilege to be part of their care, no matter what they’re facing.”

What keeps her here after 23 years? For Angela, it’s the people. “We have a great team—there’s mutual respect and support, and we all share the same goal of doing what’s best for our patients.”

Outside the hospital, Angela lives a busy life as a mother of three children. She’s passionate about dragon boat racing, a high-intensity team sport that reflects the same coordination, focus, and stamina she brings to her nursing role. She’s also involved in expert witness work for labour and delivery patients, lending her clinical expertise to legal cases that require a clear, informed understanding of medical practice standards.

Angela’s passion for women’s health and her commitment to high-quality, empathetic care make her an invaluable part of the Oak Valley Health team. Whether she’s guiding a family through early labour, supporting a patient during a miscarriage, or helping detect cervical abnormalities, Angela brings heart and skill to every moment. Her dedication, warmth, and experience have made her a valuable part of the Markham Stouffville Hospital family—and a quiet force behind so many extraordinary patient stories.
