Continuing family traditions in health care
Andy Zhou is a Nurse Practitioner in Cardiology. Andy has been with Oak Valley Health since February 2019, joining the organization as a Registered Nurse in the Integrated Stroke and Rehabilitation Unit.
Andy comes from a family deeply rooted in health care. Andy’s father was a cardiovascular surgeon and his mother was a radiologist. From a young age, Andy was inspired to follow a similar path, and health care has always felt like a natural calling.
“One of the most challenging aspects of health care is adapting to an ever-evolving medical landscape. With a growing population and rising patient volumes, we are constantly pushed to re-evaluate our workflows,” explains Andy. “While this demands adaptability and innovation, it has also revealed our collective strength, collaboration, and commitment to patient-centred care.”
Andy recently presented at the Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation’s Healthy. Together. event, which was a meaningful experience that helped spotlight the important connection between Oak Valley Health and the broader community.

“As part of the cardiology team, I’m especially proud of how Oak Valley Health is advancing cardiac care, particularly through the implementation of Ontario Health’s regional cardiac care framework,” says Andy. “With the support of the Foundation, we’re better equipped with leading-edge technology and resources to ensure timely diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up for patients experiencing serious cardiac issues. It’s a testament to what we can accomplish when we come together as a health care organization and community.”
Andy is also part of Oak Valley Health’s Emerging Leaders program, which offers introductory leadership skills to aspiring new leaders and equips them with skills in communication, coaching, change management, and building an inclusive culture.
“Being part of the Emerging Leaders program has been an enriching experience. It’s provided me with a deeper understanding of leadership, communication, and system-level thinking,” says Andy. “The program has also connected me with other passionate professionals across the organization, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to grow in their leadership journey.”

Outside of work, you can find Andy exploring new places and hiking local trails. He enjoys spending time with friends and family, and often finds himself working on various DIY projects at home.
“My favorite part of my job is working collaboratively with patients and their families to improve their health and quality of life,” explains Andy. “It’s incredibly rewarding to see patients recover and regain their strength.”
Andy is proud to work with a multidisciplinary team of cardiologists, physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals who are all dedicated to delivering exceptional care and embodying our values.
“To me, being honoured to care means more than just delivering clinical care — it’s about leading with integrity, treating others with respect, and being deeply compassionate in every interaction,” says Andy. “It reflects a commitment to excellence, innovation, and inclusion.”
