The Stollery Family Centre for Childbirth & Children at Oak Valley Health’s Markham Stouffville Hospital provides quality, patient-centred care for pregnant women, infants, and children up to age 18.

At Markham Stouffville Hospital, we support childbirth as a natural process. Our emphasis is on providing excellent patient- and family-centred care, and having you as a partner in your care.

Our goal is for you to have a safe and satisfying childbirth experience that respects your personal cultural and spiritual choices.

We have a team of highly trained obstetricians, midwives, family practitioners, nurses, paediatricians, neonatologists, and social workers to support you while at the hospital.

We have broken up our information into two sections: Having a baby and Children’s health.

Visiting hours

  • During labour and delivery, the birth parent may have up to two care people for support at the bedside.
  • For a caesarean birth, it is usual practice to accommodate one care person in the operating room at the anaesthesiologist discretion.
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) – Parents may visit at any time. Other visitors should visit during regular visiting hours and be accompanied by one parent with a limitation of two people at the bedside at any given time. Parents unable to accompany the visitor must complete the visitor consent form for their infant. Visitors unaccompanied by a parent must present photo identification at each visit. Note: sibling visitation will be restricted during flu (RSV) season (dates determined by Public Health). Siblings visiting at this time is facilitated through the NICU connect program.
  • Paediatrics – Parents are care people and encouraged to be with their child for the duration of their stay. Other visitors including siblings may visit during regular visiting hours. Visits outside of regular visiting hours are at the discretion of the care team.
  • Postpartum – Care people are encouraged to be with the birth parent for the duration of their stay. Other visitors including siblings may visit during regular visiting hours. Visits outside of regular visiting hours are at the discretion of the care team.
  • All patients and visitors are asked to follow the Newborn Infant Security in the Childbirth and Children’s Services policy.
