On November 26, 2021, Jo-anne Marr, President and CEO, Oak Valley Health and Elena Pacheco, Vice President Planning and Transformation, Oak Valley Health were joined by the Honourable Peter Bethlenfalvy, Minister of Finance and MPP for Pickering-Uxbridge, Dave Barton, Mayor of Uxbridge, John Henry, Regional Chair and CEO of Durham Region, and Dr. Jennifer Wilson, Senior Physician Leader, Oak Tree Medical Centre, for two noteworthy announcements for Uxbridge Hospital and the community.
Over the last two years, Oak Valley Health’s Uxbridge Hospital has had significant announcements allowing the organization to continue planning for the future of health care services in the community. In 2019, Oak Valley Health announced the construction of a medical office and ambulatory building on the grounds of Uxbridge Hospital – and on November 26, Dr. Wilson was joined by guests for a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially mark the opening of Oak Tree Medical Centre.
“The model of care at Oak Tree Medical Centre is consistent with our vision of providing care beyond our walls,” says Elena. “The centre allows residents of Uxbridge and Durham region better access to health services, closer to home.”
Owned and operated by a compassionate and dedicated group of family physicians, Oak Tree Medical Centre will house diagnostic imaging, physiotherapy, dentistry, pharmacy, a laboratory and select ambulatory services that will be relocated from Uxbridge Hospital.
Having the building in close proximity to the hospital allows the physicians who work in the family practice as well as in the Emergency Department and the inpatient units at Uxbridge Hospital, to practice more seamlessly, train and collaborate with one another.
“This facility, the centre of primary care excellence in Uxbridge, is closely integrated with the hospital and allied health professionals, and will continue to provide safe, high-quality care for the community and beyond,” says Elena.
During the opening, MPP Bethlenfalvy announced that Oak Valley Health has now entered Phase 2 of its redevelopment plan for the Uxbridge Hospital, which will see a brand-new facility constructed on existing land. Once complete, the hospital will be a brand new state-of-the-art building, attached to the medical centre, providing an extraordinary patient experience.
“I am thrilled we are taking another huge step in the right direction by moving to Stage 2 planning,” says Elena. “You can feel the energy amongst the staff and community, having a one-stop shop for all their medical needs is a real game-changer.”
As part of Phase 2 planning, Oak Valley Health has submitted a functional program for approval, which outlines the programs and services to be offered at the new hospital. Once that is approved, the hospital will move to the final stage of the process — implementation.
